Technology

Our Satej Innovations’ bag is based on the active packaging platform. Active Packaging is often referred as “Disruptive Technology” as it does not need expensive infrastructure of Passive Packaging. The bags carefully formulated, in which farmers or packers can pack their produce, and then either send the produce to the market or cold storage. This is more suited to developing countries like India having poor infrastructure.

The concept of ethylene gas absorption has been evaluated on the commercial scale. We are currently marketing Satej MAP Bags for packing horticulture produce.

Further work revolves around perishable commodities for human consumption. It includes

  • Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
  • Milk and milk products
  • Meat and meat products
  • Baked Goods

It addresses special packaging based on commodity plastics. Active packaging under the broad definition of MAP is the main driver. Various additives have been of interest and some of them are based on nanotechnology. Different platforms with encapsulation are of interest for harnessing special additives for protecting them during converting technology. The slow release of additives, in active package and its activation, would be by water, released by perishables during storage.

During the storage of perishables, gases are generated inside the package which keep the perishables fresh and prevent the bacterial growth. Hence it supports the concept of active packaging. Storing perishables at lower or refrigerated conditions enhances the freshness.

The concept of essential oils, enzymes and their incorporation during converting is also under different stages of development.
